Dong Hyun Kim vs Paulo Thiago

by Dr. Octagon, J.D.

They’re hyping the RZA’s new martial arts film “The Man with the Iron Fists.” Daniel Wu is ringside and obviously Cung Le, who is fighting in tonight’s main event, is also in the film. Talk about excellent cross-promotion.

Very savvy of the UFC to feature Le in the main event of its first card in China (Macau). Nothing like a movie star to add credibility to a mixed martial arts event, and vice versa. As a fan of martial arts films, I find them much more meaningful when the people pretending to do the karate can really do the karate if needed.

This is the first fight back for Dong Hyun Kim, who lost his last fight due to a freak muscle spasm injury. Live updates after the jump:

Takanori Gomi vs Mac Danzig

by Dr. Octagon, J.D.

Round 1: Mac Danzig lands a leg kick. Takanari Gomi lands a leg kick. Danzig kicks and Gomi lands a punch. Gomi lands a kick and a bodyshot. Danzig comes forward, but doesn’t land. Gomi throws a leg kick. Gomi lands a glancing left. Danzig lands a jab. Gomi lands a left. Danzig lands some knees from the clinch.

UFC on FuelTV 6 Preview: Rich Franklin vs Cung Le

by Dr. Octagon, J.D.

This fight card is in the Cotai Strip (like the Las Vegas Strip, only smaller) in Macau, a gambling mecca and former Portuguese colony now administered by the People’s Republic of China.

Because this shit is going on on the other side of the globe, it’s going to be on at 9am (EST), so you can enjoy some bloodsport along with your waffles tomorrow morning.  I’m going to be attending a charity ball with my wife tonight, so I might be a little slow in rising.  Hopefully my usually slave-driving editor will give me some leeway if the coverage comes out a little late. Here is a breakdown of the card (after the jump):

UFC on FuelTV 5: The Results Thus Far

by Dr. Octagon, J.D.

Our esteemed editor is going to garnish my wages, because not only did I miss the first few fights on FuelTV, my fucking DVR didn’t record them. Here are the results so far:

Robert Peralta over Jason Young, KO by strikes 23 seconds Round 1

Gunnar Nelson beat DeMarques Johnson by rear naked choke 3:34 of Round 1

Brad Tavares beat Tom Watson by split decision 30-27, 28-29 and 29-28

Akira Corassani beat Andy Ogle by split decision 28-29, 30-27 and 29-28

For the record, that is two split decisions in a row with a 30-27 card. Jesus.

Jimi Manuawa defeated Kyle Kingsbury by TKO due to a massive hematoma over the eye at the end of round 2.

Duane Ludwig got injured at 2:28 of Round 1 giving Che Mills the win.

John Hathaway won a unanimous 30-27x3 decision over John Maguire in a terrible fight that I caught most of.

Because this is on FuelTV, it is not in high definition. At least they changed the terrible voice-overs in that ridiculous MetroPCS commercial.
